The Gender Role Identity and Empowerment of Women with Disabilities -Focus on the Cheju Island-

Abstract
This paper aims to survey the types of the gender role identity of women with disabilities and find out the relations between the gender role identity and empowerment and then suggests the ways to strengthen their ability.
The number of objects of this study is 356, which are the crippled, blind, deaf and brain-troubled women.
The primary results of study are as follows.
First, the types of gender role identity has the meaningful difference with types of disability, grade of disability, level of independent life and cause of disability. The empowerment has also the meaningful difference with types of disability, grade of disability, level of independent life.
Second, both the types of gender role identity and empowerment have the meaningful difference with the experience of social activities.
Third, the empowerment with the female gender role identity have the meaningful difference statistically, so the empowerment of the androgynous and the masculine gender role identity shows higher than that of the female gender identity.
On the base of results of this study, we propose the necessity of the development of programs that can ensure the independent lives, support the experience of social activities, reinforce the basements of sports activities and participation in making decision and the positive traits of masculine gender.
Also, we propose that we proceed to study the use of the factors, which can improve empowerment, out of the types of the gender role identity considering views of the women with disabilities.
